Situations that constitute a garage door repair emergency

There are many different emergencies you can face in daily life, from medical emergencies to emergency plumbing repairs. However, your garage door might also require immediate and timely repair services for various reasons.

The unfortunate reality is that many homeowners remain with doors that are loosely hanging off their tracks or have damaged tension cords. Such doors require emergency repairs or they can fall off and seriously injure you or your family. Here are some common issues with your garage door that may warrant emergency repairs.

1. Broken springs and tension cords

Whenever you open your garage door, its weight is supported by a system of springs and tension cords. A garage door easily weighs several hundred kilograms, depending on its size. This weight is supported by tension cords that prevent the door from crashing down whenever you open it. However, it's not uncommon for garage doors to end up with warped springs or damaged tension cords. This can occur due to wear and tear over time, or due to poor maintenance and use.

If you notice that the weight of your door isn't being supported adequately, you should keep the door closed and call a repair service as soon as possible. Put a sign near the door to warn others from using it until it's repaired.

2. The door is off its tracks

Garage doors operate by gliding on a system of tracks. If the door slides off its tracks, it can fall off and cause major injuries. A door can come off its tracks for many different reasons, including a broken cable, a damaged roller, or a deformed track. If you notice that the door is hanging off its proper tracks, call a garage roller door repair service immediately.

3. The door is stuck in an open or closed position

Another emergency repair that may be necessary is when your door is stuck in an open or closed position. When stuck in an open position, the risks are obvious; the door could come crashing down or thieves will be able to freely enter your garage. If stuck in a closed position, you or your items may remain stuck inside until the door can safely open again.

4. Sharp edges along the steel frame

The heavy steel frame of your garage door is designed to keep your home secure. This frame makes it almost impossible for thieves to break through the door as they attempt to gain entry. However, the steel frame may end up with sharp edges that can cause harm to both adults and children.

Sharp edges typically occur due to damage on the door itself, often arising from heavy impact. Don't leave these sharp edges protruding; call a repair service immediately.

About Me

Building a basement

We have a small house on a small block and we can't extend the house up due to council restrictions. We really need some more storage room though, which is why we have been building a basement extension. It's quite a big project to build a large basement under an existing house and we definitely didn't realise how much work it was going to be before we got started! Now it's finished I'm glad we did it because it has given us a lot more space. This blog shows our project fom start to finish and should be useful for anyone attempting the project.
