3 Questions to Ask Glass Splashback Suppliers

If you want to add a new glass splashback to your kitchen, then you have to think about its design, colour and layout. If you get this wrong and make a mistake, then buying a new piece of glass will be costly. To maximise your chances of getting it right, ask suppliers the following questions.

1. Can They Measure for You?

You can measure the space where you want the splashback to go yourself. You then give the measurements to your supplier so they can cut the glass to size. This shouldn't be a problem if you get the measurements just right; however, you might run into problems if you get things wrong. Once your glass is cut, it is toughened. Once it goes through this process, you can't cut it again to rectify mistakes.

So, if the splashback didn't fit, you'd have to use the glass as is, which probably wouldn't look great. If it doesn't fit at all, you would have to start over. So, it makes sense to ask your supplier if they can measure for you. They have the experience to get this right the first time. Plus, in the unlikely event that they make a mistake, it would be their fault and not yours. You wouldn't have to pay twice to get a splashback that fits.

2. Should You Do Anything With the Wall?

The wall behind a glass splashback impacts on how the glass looks and fits. You might need to do some work to get it ready before your installation day. For example, you may not realise how the colour of your walls will impact a clear splashback. Regular glass has a green tinge, so it might not look exactly how you imagined when it is up on your wall and the background colour shows through.

Plus, if the wall is bumpy in places, then the splashback might not fit exactly flush to the surface. You might need to even things out. When your supplier measures up, they can give you advice on the state of your wall and any prep work you need to do. They can also talk to you about colour issues.

3. Does the Glass Colour Have a Warranty?

If you're going to install a coated coloured glass, then you want the colour to stay looking sharp and bright. Ask your supplier if they give you any guarantees against problems like fading or flaking. Bear in mind that any warranties you get may have installation clauses. For example, they may only be valid if the company that supplies the glass fits the splashback.

About Me

Building a basement

We have a small house on a small block and we can't extend the house up due to council restrictions. We really need some more storage room though, which is why we have been building a basement extension. It's quite a big project to build a large basement under an existing house and we definitely didn't realise how much work it was going to be before we got started! Now it's finished I'm glad we did it because it has given us a lot more space. This blog shows our project fom start to finish and should be useful for anyone attempting the project.
